We had a Blast(er)! A Star Wars Recap
On December 30th we had the joy of sharing our love of Star Wars with a planned 600+ guests (to read the why please visit Sharing Star Wars). We were treated to a festive environment, with characters in costume greeting the kids to make the event extra-special.
The theatre screening was provided by rTraction, but we once again had tremendous support from our community both in the form of funds and volunteers to allow us to provide popcorn, drinks, and candy, to give the full theatre experience to a population that may not otherwise be able to attend during the holiday season.
We also relied heavily on a network of volunteers from community organization partners that serve the Londoners we were hoping to reach. They helped get the word out and provide on-the-day logistics. The success of this event is a significant community collaboration that results in tonnes of smiles, and of course, lightsabers.
We would like to thank the following agencies for helping with logistics and spreading the word:
- Boys and Girls Club London
- Oneida Family Healing Lodge
- N'Amerind Friendship Centre
- South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre
- Glen Cairn Resource Centre
- Circles / Bridges out of Poverty
- Community Living London
We would also like to thank the following individuals and organizations for helping to support the initiative financially:
The group from Echo Three came to delight the kids with cosplay and props. They made the experience unique and much more than just at rip to the theatre. Thank you! Andy Berdan helped to take photos of the events for the kids - you can see a selection of them below.
Last but not least, we’d like to thank Peter and the fabulous staff at Landmark Cinemas for giving us an amazing venue to host the event. We think the staff had just as much fun as we did sharing the experience with the kids.
We’re grateful to live in a connected community that can make this type of an event happen, and we look forward to the next one. You can see from the pictures below that the kids had a great time.
We are also lucky to have FANatics capture the event via video - you can get a great recap from Tammy!
May the Force be with you .... always.
