We Recertified! Our Journey With The B Corp Movement
At the heart of rTraction's journey as a B Corporation lies a fundamental belief: businesses have the power and responsibility to be catalysts for positive change in our communities.
It's not just about turning a profit; it's about leveraging our skills, resources, and influence to make a tangible difference in the world around us. This isn't some lofty ideal we've recently adopted – it's been woven into the fabric of rTraction since day one. I've seen firsthand how aligning our business goals with community needs can create a ripple effect of positive impact. It's not always easy, and sometimes it means making tough choices, but the rewards – both for our team and our community – are immeasurable.
This commitment to using business as a force for good is what led us down the B Corp path. When rTraction first became a Certified B Corporation in 2016, we were part of a pioneering group of approximately 150 companies in Canada committed to this cause. Today, as we celebrate our recertification, we're proud to be part of a rapidly expanding movement that now includes over 400 B Corps across Canada and more than 9,000 worldwide. This significant growth reflects the increasing interest among businesses in prioritizing social and environmental impact alongside financial performance.
Our journey to B Corp certification was a natural evolution of rTraction's long-standing commitment to balancing people, planet, and profit. Since our inception in 2001, we've consistently prioritized social and environmental responsibility alongside financial success. However, becoming a B Corp provided us with three crucial benefits:
-
A structured framework to articulate and communicate our values more effectively.
-
Third-party verification of our commitment to these values, enhancing credibility and transparency.
-
Membership in an esteemed community of purpose-driven businesses, offering valuable guidance, insights, and educational opportunities to continually improve our positive impact.
We have just completed our latest certification. It is a process that occurs every 2-3 years, forcing us to review our policies, procedures, and commitment to the movement.
As the first Certified B Corp in our home community of London, Ontario, raising local awareness was an essential part of our mission. Since achieving certification, we've been joined by other like-minded organizations such as Libro Credit Union, McCabe Promotional, Selectpath, ManagePoint Technologies and several others on the way. This growth within our community not only amplifies the impact we can make together but also fosters a culture of accountability and excellence among local businesses committed to social responsibility.
By working alongside these organizations, we aim to inspire more companies in London and beyond to embrace the principles of B Corp certification and prioritize purpose-driven work. It's about creating a business ecosystem where success is measured not just by financial metrics, but by the positive change we create in our communities.
As we look to the future, our commitment to being a force for good remains unwavering. The B Corp certification isn't just a badge we wear – it's a constant reminder of our responsibility to our team, our community, and our planet. It challenges us to continually improve, innovate, and lead by example.
To all the businesses out there considering this path: I can tell you from experience, it's worth it. The journey may be challenging, but the impact you can make – on your team, your community, and the world – is truly transformative. Here's to using business as a force for good, one company at a time.
