What To Do After Giving Tuesday
First, pat yourself on the back! You made it. Giving Tuesday can be hectic. With a push for donations during giving season, Giving Tuesday can be crucial for organizational funding. Now that the dust has settled, here are some key things to do after Giving Tuesday wraps up.
- Make sure your campaigns and Giving Tuesday-specific content have stopped. Pivot to new communication messaging strategy and plan for new campaigns to keep the momentum going. It's time for end-of-year giving.
- Shout out and appreciate your internal team, staff, board, and volunteers for ALL of their hard work.
- Collect metrics and analyze, analyze, analyze! How were you reaching people, which platform was seeing the most donations, and how did this year's efforts compare to last year's are just some of the data you can analyze to start.
- Contact donors and campaign champions, recognize them, and let them know their impact. You must say thank you. This custom thank you will look different for different donors. New donors, major donors, etc. should all receive different communications. You might want to think about suggesting a recurring giving option to new donors, and asking major donors if they would like to be honored on the website, or a giving wall for example.
- Hold a debrief session with the team; what went well, what didn't go well, what can you improve, what ideas to try, feedback etc. Get this information while it's still fresh and start preparing for next year.
- Communicate the impact of the campaign across all of your channels; press release, email, social media, blog, radio etc. Remember to include key information and focus on tangible impacts. People love to know where the money is going and how it helped.
- Remember to build up your community. Share other ways to get involved with your organization and cause that's not just financial.
- Get those annual reports ready! Even if December is not your year-end, people are expecting a year-in-review around this time. Knowing these stats and being prepared is a great strategy to bring in the New Year with renewed purpose and drive.
- Share your most important stories about your organization. Focus on storytelling that connects and brings your community closer together after the hype of Giving Tuesday. Understand and drive home your why.
- Gather feedback and listen.
As you wrap up your Giving Tuesday efforts, remember that the work doesn’t end with a successful campaign. By taking the time to reflect, analyze, and connect with your supporters, you can strengthen relationships, improve your strategies for next year, and ensure your organization continues to thrive. Stay focused on your mission, and use the momentum from Giving Tuesday to keep building toward a successful end-of-year push. Your efforts are making an impact—now it's time to share that impact and keep your community engaged.
